Dr Jozi Joseph Thwala is a Senior Lecturer in Siswati at the University of Mpumalanga.
Qualification: He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Siswati, Master of Arts, BA (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Zululand. He also holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He studied more on African philology, origins and comparisons of various African literature and linguistics. He is a specialist in the following aspects: poetry, drama, folklore and onomastics. He contributed a lot to sociolinguistics, syntax and semantics.
Work experience: He worked as Siswati subject advisor/ Curriculum implementer for Mpumalanga Department of Education and National Department for many years. He served as a Siswati Senior Lecturer at the University of Venda for ten years. He supervised and promoted a large number of BA (Hons), MA and Ph.D students. He is an external examiner of various tertiary institutions. He wrote many research articles that are published at various Continents. He is attached to the language development structures of PANSALB, the Siswati National Language Body (NLB) and Siswati National Language Unit (NLU). He served as the chief examiner, moderator and assessor of Grade 12 papers from 1984 to 2016. He joined the University of Mpumalanga, Mbombela Campus with effect from the 1st of July 2019.
Professional interest: The focus is on the development of Siswati language at various levels to have the phoneticians, phonologist, morphologist, poets and novelist.
