Biography
Dr. Thanyani Selby Madzivhandila is a holder of Doctor of Administration in Development (DADMIN) from the University of Limpopo (Turf-loop Campus). He graduated as one of the youngest PhD graduate at the age of 28. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Development Studies Programme at the University of Mpumalanga. His current duties include the provision of strategic theoretically informed and pedagogically sound leadership at the level of Discipline, School and Programme. He has also worked tirelessly with his team to apply and launch Development studies undergrad, Honours and Masters qualifications which are currently offered by the university. He also teaches at both undergrad and postgraduate, modules such as research methodology and environmental management amongst others. As part of his engagement in scholarship, he examines research Master’s Dissertations and PhD thesis for most of South African University.
Dr Madzivhandila is and has been a member of South African Association of Public Administration (SAAPAM) for almost a decade now. In 2019, he was appointed a Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee for the 19th Annual South Africa Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) conference (14-17 May 2019) in collaboration with University of Mpumalanga. The conference was a great success. His areas of research interest include Service Delivery, Rural Development, Environmental Management, Development Policy, Entrepreneurship, LED, Disaster and Strategic Management. He has published 23 articles in accredited and peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Furthermore, he has attended and presented research papers at both national and international conference in countries such as France, USA, Finland and Netherland. He has worked with a significant number of students on their research activities both as a mentor and supervisor.
Dr Madzivhandila, review articles for Journal of Public Administration, Journal of Local Economy, International Journal of Economics and Finance Studies and African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation and Development. He also serves as a Chairperson for Thuthuka Research Programm on Human & Social Sciences PHD, POST-PHD and NRF Rated Peer Review Panel and also as a panellist for NRF funding review group for Competitive Programme for Rated Researcher (CPRR), Competitive Support for Unrated Researchers (CSUR) and Research Development Grants for Y-Rated Researchers. He is a former member of National, Limpopo Provincial and Capricorn District disaster management advisory forum in 2013-2014 and he currently serve as a member of Bushbuckridge Municipality’s audit committee.
